Veteran Channel Nine newsreader Peter Overton has disclosed he had to undergo emergency surgery this week after his dermatologist spotted something unusual during a routine skin check.
The journalist shared a photo from his hospital bed on Twitter after having Melanoma removed from his right temple.

“I have fair skin & am vigilant re my skin checks every few months,” he wrote.
“My wonderful dermatologist spotted something unusual on my right temple-Melanoma. Surgery yesterday to remove it. I am a lucky fella.”
He went on to urge others to regularly get their skin checked as well.
“For those thinking about getting their skin checked. Do it. Now,” he said.
